Anyone who works with WordPress knows how valuable it can be to have a backup of your website. Unfortunately, backing up WordPress websites can be tricky and often requires plugins, dedicated storage, and a degree of expertise (as well as some luck!). Thanks to the fully integrated Pressidium Backup feature, those days are gone. Backups can now be taken quickly and easily with just a couple of clicks, no plugins needed.
Step 1: Getting Started with Backups
Pressidium Backups are included for free on all plans. There are two types of backup. Instant Backups and Offsite Backups.
Instant Backups can be taken at any time via your Dashboard or WP Admin (see below). Offsite backups are fully automated and take a full backup of your website for storage offsite on a rolling daily basis. All websites hosted with Pressidium will automatically be backed up on a rolling daily schedule. Instant backups are stored for 15 days whilst Offsite backups are stored for 30 days.
NOTE: You do not need to configure anything for the automated daily backups to run.
Step 2: Take an Instant Backup manually
Although an Instant and Offsite backup will be taken automatically once every 24 hours, there are times when it might be beneficial to take your own backup. For example prior to updating a plugin or making a significant design change to your website.
You can take Instant backups via your Dashboard or from within WP-Admin.
Take a Backup from your Dashboard
Login to your Dashboard and head to the website you’d like to backup. Click on the ‘backup’ tab.
Click on the ‘Create an Instant Backup’ button.
Next, a popup window will open that gives you the option of naming your backup. This is useful if you’re taking multiple backups during the course of the day and allows you to identify the point your site was at prior to the backup being taken. Fill this in and click ‘Create’.
And that’s it! Your backup will be taken within a few minutes. You’ll receive an email notification as soon as this is complete.
Take a backup from WP-Admin
If you’re working on your website from within WP-Admin you can also take a backup from here, rather than logging into your Dashboard.
To do this, click on the Pressidium menu, and then click on Backups from the sub-menu.
Name your backup and then click ‘Perform Instant Backup’. That’s it. Within a couple of minutes, you’ll receive an email notification confirming the backup has been successfully taken.
Step 3: Restoring a Backup
To restore your site using a backup, log into your Dashboard, head to the Backup tab of the website in question, scroll down the list of backups from within the Backup tab, choose the one you wish to use, and click ‘Restore’. You can also download a full copy of this backup to use as you wish.
